Tips for Detecting Scams

Paranoia is your friend, if it sounds to good to be true, it very likely is. The nature of scams are the confidence game where there is a grain of truth the bad guys wrap their falsehoods in. Closely related to scams and detected the same ways are urban legends and myths, so of you can detect one, you are pretty good at detecting the other.

Tools to assist are browser add-ons such as McAfee's SiteAdvisor and Web of Trust that help you by identifying untrustworthy web sites both when you visit the sites as well as within Google searches. Both are highly recommended and as they approach the task differently, un fortunately they do not work well together, so to truely give you a better picture of trustworthiness of a site you might visit, you've have to check in seperate browsers.
